The gif I chose is from the episode “From Hell” of Channel 4 television series The IT Crowd. As opposed to the other gifs I reblogged, the text in this is one is not from the show’s dialogue. I thought it would fit nicely here after seeing multiple Valentine’s Day cards with this phrase/pun. I also thought it was funny that he’s tossing out Hitler as though he is rejecting his romantic advances. And plus I like the idea of throwing out Hitler because of the irony, of course.
The addition of the text completely changes the context of the gif and thus is a form of intertextuality. It makes this gif its own text as opposed to an IT Crowd bit. Both the image and the text are working together to create a reaction gif that the creators of the show probably did not intend.
